MacTavish Welding
MacTavish Welding was founded in 1951 by B.R. MacTavish in Campbell River, British Columbia as a blacksmith and welding company specializing in industrial marine fabrication in North Vancouver Island, B.C. His son, Rick, soon followed his footsteps and took over the the company in 1986.
During the 58 years in operation MacTavish Welding has built an array of marine fabrications. The most recent projects consisted of the construction of two tug boats; the first with a 45' x 20' beam, twin screw design, the MV " Inlet Wrangler". With the success of the initial tug, Rick designed and built a larger 53' 6" x 22' beam, twin screw tug boat named the MV "Inlet Rustler" both developed for Gowland Towing of Campbell River.
Additionally the company has built and designed a number of smaller tugs, aluminum boats ranging from 16' to 44', fishing vessels, small barges and floats for the logging and booming operations. MacTavish Welding was also responsible for the construction of 7 large fish feed barges used in fish farms operating in Johnston Straits and Tofino, British Columbia.
In 2006, the addition of a 73' x 80' x 34' high construction bay to the facility provides a secure and protected structure ensuring optimum quality construction. A 10 ton overhead crane with bay door openings of 34' on both sides provides access for a wide variety of large projects.
The company is equipped with 2 press brakes, a 200 ton and a 400 ton, both with 14' beds, as well as a 3/8 x 12' plate shear, 1/2" x 6' plate rolls, profile rolls for angle, pipe and flat bar, saws, plasma cutters lathes drills, ironworker, and weld equipment. We also facilitate our own sandblasting and painting done under cover.
Conveniently located just a few blocks from the Duncan Bay barge terminal , all employees hold trade qualification welding tickets ( A,B and C) and often produce projects before delivery due date.
